Hallloooooo to what will hopefully soon be millions of followers, ha ha! I am Sebastine Pepler, a Hair and Make up artist from Cape Town.
This will be my first attempt at blogging. You look confused? “There are many other posts in you history?”, you ask. Yes, there are, but they all came from very capable IT gurus. I would write the post and then send it to my friend, who would then edit all the pictures and post them to my blog and website. I am what you would call ‘technologically impaired`. A “TECH-TARD”, as my friend Anni Abel would call it!
Blogging kind of scares me…you write down all your opinions, thoughts and ideas as such. People, strangers, get to read it and ultimately starts getting to know you/me. It freaks me out… “what if you don’t like what you read? What if you don’t like me?” After about a 2min careful consideration I decided that it isn’t about me…It is my work that I am promoting. After all, it would be good to use my laptop for more than just facebook for a change…
Now that I have explained all that, I am not only asking, but begging for your patience with me. I can guarantee you that the first few posts will be really manky. Images might be skew, different sizes of even missing. In turn I will promise to keep trying, even though I might walk the hall of shame after every post, I will persist and keep going until I am no longer a TECH-TARD!
It was great meeting you all… looking forward to a long life of posting together. In the meantime, go have a look at my brand-spanking-new WEBSITE!! Dirk from PERONii Solutions sorted me out and wouldn’t mind helping you too… TECH-TARDS UNITE!!
Santam got me to do this super cool advert. You can see it on billboards and magazines. It was shot in an old aircraft hangar at the airport where they service the busses that take you too and from the airplanes. Good shoot. Can you believe we shot this in only half a day!

As you all know I work not only in the wedding industry, but also, advertising, commercials and stills. I think that most make-up artist specialise. I should have when I started, but I just can’t seem to leave one or two of them behind. I am a workaholic. I have to be busy all the time. When I am not, I will make every effort to find or work on a new project. This specific one was a night shoot in an antique warehouse in Lakeside. This was for a new wedding magazine that was due to reach the shelves round about September last year. I had a good time as I got a chance to play around with all different hair styles, curly and romantic for Rouxmia and strong and structured for Ilana. The photographer was actually Ilana’s boyfriend, John Davis. It was the first time that I worked with him. I had fun, he wasn’t afraid to try things. In one of the shots he even locked the models in a closet/showcase. I wonder how many of our boyfriends have been dreaming to lock us up somewhere, ha ha! I guess John can now tick that one off his list. Thanks Hendrik for always thinking of me when you shoot. Always a pleasure.

When I did the shoot with Olivari for Oprah Magazine he showed me a reference of a shoot he was inspired by…It was Magnificent!! I was stunned. I immediately started thinking of how we could put this together. We decided to choose a model based on her face shape alone. This might seem simple or easy, but I assure you it is not!! Picking a model purely based on the shape of the face must be any make up artists’ nightmare. I am always distracted by the stunning eyes, the beautiful lashes or the full lips. If it wasn’t for Oli, I would still have been staring at a screen trying to figure out who would look best with a stocking over their heads… When you look at these pics, please excuse the primitive way I have posted, I was just too excited to wait for Oli to edit them. These were taken with my blackberry off the computer screen.
My good friend Jo from MOTH Clothing did the styling for me again. It was great to have her on board as I had such a challenging time with the hair in this shoot; I could not be distracted by styling too. To give you a rough estimate of what I had to do to get this to work… I drove around for two whole days to find synthetic blond hair in more or less the right colour…I finally found some in the slums of all slums. I bought two packs, thinking if I mess up one at least I have a back up. Well, after my second try I had to send my poor boyfriend back there to buy another two packs. The tricky thing about this hair is that I had to set it in resin. Normal fingerwaves can just be done with some gel, but this had to be rock hard to stand away from the face like this. Once you start working with the resin there is no turning back. None the less, after try number 4 I finally got the winner. I’m not sure if it would have gotten better if I kept on going, but I finally sent Oli an email saying I might set all the hair on fire if I don’t stop now… OK, OK, so I wasn’t that dramatic, but I promise I was thinking it! Please enjoy these shots…take some time and really look at what we did here. I guarantee it was one of the most challenging things I have ever done. I have definitely grown from this experience!!
